How Much Does It Cost?

Inspiration Book:
Lemonade in winter : a book about two kids counting money by Jenkins, Emily, 1967- — Schwartz & Wade Books, 2012--E-; Int Lvl: K-3; Rd Lvl: 2.2 Pauline and her brother John-John set up a stand to sell lemonade, limeade, and lemon-limeade one cold, wintry day, then try to attract customers as Pauline adds up their earnings.
Rationale: I welcome this Inspiration Book as an additional economics book for young children. For years I have used Viorst’s Alexander Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday with K-2 students when they were studying money in math class. I still use Alex, but now have another “money” and economics book to spin-off a variety of activities. There are computer related activities that can also be coordinated with either book. Initially I included some new winter books with the Related Titles, but removed them since winter and snow may be found in other Books Alive entries such as The Story of Snow and Under the Snow

Lemonade in Winter: A Book About Two Kids Counting Money
Lemonade is a math book that contains a comical but factual explanation of American coins and their value, and a set of math problems that can be written out by students as the characters sell lemonade at different prices. It's also about entrepreneurship, and set-up costs as related to profits. Author website http://www.emilyjenkins.com/classroom-activities
