Cheep! Cheep! Quack! Quack! Honk! Honk!
Inspiration Book:
That is not a good idea! by Willems, Mo — Balzer + Bray, 2013--E-; Int Lvl: K-3; Rd Lvl: 1.4 Illustrations that resemble a silent film tell the story of a plump mama goose who is invited to dinner by a hungry fox while her babies try to warn her that it is a bad idea.
Rationale: You have probably used silly fowl and wily fox stories for years, stories such as “Chicken Little” and Petunia. And, maybe they’re getting a little stale. Using Mo Willems’ Inspiration Book, as the inspiration, try some of the most recent books about fowl and foxes that have at least five positive reviews. They’re clever and wily and fun and new. The two guides from Harper (book guide and event kit) will give you lots of ideas.
I usually find that the springtime is a good time to do use books featuring fowl of all kinds. My first grade teacher hatches chicken or duck eggs and I do fowl stories. Why not try some of these new titles--maybe a whole story hour using new titles.
